According to the European Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology, a booster shot of extra radiation may help women with breast cancer.

A study of 5,500 women with breast cancer found that an extra boost of eight additional treatments can cut the odds of cancer recurrence in the same breast by 50 percent. The younger the woman the greater the benefit from the additional radiation.

While extra radiation can lead to breast and chest wall scarring and other problems it can also help millions of women with breast cancer, especially those in the early stages of breast cancer.

Ask your doctor about extra treatments. This study shows they may prevent the recurrence of breast cancer and save lives.
