An Idaho company has recalled 65 bodybuilding supplements because the products may contain steroids.
Bodybuilding.com announced the international recall of the supplements on Tuesday, calling the action "part of its ongoing cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)."
The company recalled all lots and expiration dates of 65 dietary supplements sold on its Web site, including Anabolic Xtreme Hyperdrol X2, Hardcore Formulations T-Roid, and Redefine Nutrition Finaflex Ripped.
FDA officials notified the company the recalled products likely contained ingredients "currently classified, or the FDA believes should be classified," as steroids. Those ingredients, the FDA said, are Superdrol, Madol, Tren, Androstenedione, and Turinabol.
"While the company has not had an opportunity to independently confirm the FDA's concerns that the recalled products in fact contain these ingredients, the company is undertaking this voluntary recall in an abundance of caution," the FDA said.
Products that contain steroids, the FDA warned, can cause such serious and long-term health problems as acute liver injury, shrinkage of the testes and male infertility, masculinization of women, breast enlargement in males, short stature in children, and an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.
Bodybuilding.com has not received any reports of adverse effects linked to the recalled products, according to the FDA. The makers of the recalled supplements assured Bodybuilding.com that the products did not contain any unlawful ingredients, the FDA said.
Consumers who have any of the recalled supplements should immediately stop using them and contact their physician if they experience any of health problems.
