Combi Recalls 67,000 Infant Seats

-->
Combi is recalling 67,167 infant restraint systems because the seat could separate from the base resulting in injury to the child in the event of a crash.

The recall includes the entire production of the infant seats from October 2005 to December 2007, according to the National Highway traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In the event of a frontal crash, the car seat could potentially become separated from its base. Should the seat separate from the base in a crash, the child will not be adequately protected possibly resulting in injury, NHTSA warns on its Web site.

The agency reported that owners should contact Combi for a free retrofit kit. Until the kit is received, Combi recommends that the car seat be used without the base, according to NHTSA.

The recalled restraint systems are the Centre, Centre ARB and Shuttle with model numbers 8065, 8074, 8086, 8087, and 8520.

Associated travel systems with the model numbers 4400, 4515, and 4520 which contain the Centre and shuttle seats are part of the recall as well.

The recall began March 3 and owners may contact Combi at 1-800-543-7734 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153).
