Gas Prices Rise Like a 4th of July Rocket

The average price for a gallon of gasoline in creeping toward $3 again with drivers now paying an average $2.93 for regular as the Fourth of July holiday comes to an end.

Gasoline prices increased 4 cents over the holiday weekend, according to AAA of Hawthorne, Florida.

Midgrade and premium gasoline prices are also up 4 cents from last week. Midgrade is now selling for an average of $3.11 a gallon and premium is averaging $3.22 a gallon.

Diesel fuel now sells for $2.97 a gallon, up 2 cents from five days ago.

One month ago, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline sold for $2.86. One year ago a gallon of regular self serve cost $2.22.

Drivers in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, now pay $3.57 a gallon for regular gasoline. That is the highest price in the country. Liberty, South Carolina has the lowest prices with regular unleaded selling for $2.55 a gallon.
