DaimlerChrysler Products Top Most-Stolen List

August 10, 2005
The Dodge Stratus and Intrepid were the most stolen cars in America in 2003 according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In the same year, thieves stole 11 of every 1000 of the Dodge Stratus and 10 per 1,000 for the Dodge Intrepid, NHTSA reported. The 2003 figures are the most recent available to the government agency.

While the Dodge and Intrepid suffered the highest theft rate, car thieves stole 786 Toyota Corollas, the most of any single car.

NHTSA also reports that the theft rate for all cars and trucks fell 26%, according to the most recent government figures. The rate for all vehicles fell to 1.84 from 2.49 in the previous year, according to NHTSA.

The rate at which new models are stolen has dropped for 10 years in large part because of the use of more antitheft devices.
